SectorPoint Completes New SharePoint 2010 Website for the Orange County Department of Education

When the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) sought out a consultant to redesign their website, they were not only seeking a company that could complete the necessary work, but also one that had an understanding of their needs as a provider of educational services. Vacaville-based SectorPoint, Inc. had experiences in developing websites for a variety of educational institutions—including county offices of education—and expertise in SharePoint branding were key to the OCDE’s reasons for selecting SectorPoint for their website redesign project.  SectorPoint, Inc. was selected by the OCDE to complete the website redesign and implement Microsoft SharePoint 2010 (a content management program), so that the website would be easier to navigate by website users.

The previous OCDE website had some challenges—different URLs for department websites, inconsistent look, wording and feel between division websites, and a large amount of content.  As a result, website users had difficulty finding the information they needed.   “OCDE wanted a website that had features that were user friendly to educators, parents, students and community members,” according to Louis Mazzarini, OCDE’s Director of Information Technology.

The new OCDE website has several new features, including:

  • More streaming videos
  • Customized home page navigation links for parents, educators, students and community members.
  • Improved search feature
  • Welcoming, easy to read content
  • Up-to-date events and activities

“SectorPoint is excited about the launch of the new website for the Orange County Department of Education.  The site’s new look and feel allows them an improved mechanism for communicating with their audiences,” said Jon Cornelison, CEO of SectorPoint, Inc.

SectorPoint also implemented and provided training for Microsoft SharePoint, allowing the OCDE staff to provide more consistent and timely updates.  In addition, SectorPoint developed website governance procedures to protect the site’s integrity and to allow OCDE consistent processes and procedures pertaining to the maintenance of the website.
